Find Places Missing Information
v3.1: Powered by the new Google Places API. This tool flags businesses that have incomplete profiles on Google Maps (missing phone numbers, websites, or opening hours).
Pro-Tip for built-up areas: If you get 0 results in a dense city, the major chains are overshadowing the results. Try searching for specific niche categories in the Place Type box (like "tailor", "takeaway", "mechanic", or "laundromat") to find the small businesses that usually forget to add their opening hours!
Why Updating Missing Information Matters
Welcome to the Missing Info Finder. As a dedicated Google Maps Local Guide, ensuring that local businesses have accurate and up-to-date profiles is crucial. Missing phone numbers, websites, or regular opening hours can frustrate potential customers and hurt a business's local visibility. Often, small businesses move locations, change management, or simply forget to update their digital storefronts. However, manually checking profiles in bustling cities or busy neighbourhoods to fix these errors can be tedious.
How to Utilise This Scanner
Our tool utilises the Google Places API to scan your chosen area and flag businesses with incomplete data. You can search broadly for any missing details, or use the dropdown filter to specifically hunt for places missing just their phone numbers or websites. By submitting an approved edit for these missing details, you provide immediate assistance to future customers while maximising your Local Guide points. Whether you are exploring your own suburb or travelling somewhere new, this scanner ensures your editing efforts are highly efficient.
How do I find the missing information?
Once the tool flags a business with missing details, you have a few options. The most reliable way is to physically visit the location and check their storefront window for posted hours or a phone number. Alternatively, you can often find the correct information by searching for the business's official social media pages or local directory listings. Always ensure the data is accurate before submitting an edit via Google Maps!
Why is the map showing zero results?
In highly developed urban centres, most prominent businesses already have fully completed profiles. To uncover missing information, try searching for smaller, niche business types (e.g., "food truck", "tailor", "laundromat") instead of leaving the Place Type blank. The major chains will always be fully updated, so you need to look for the hidden gems.
Is my personal location stored or tracked?
No. If you enable the "Use My Location" feature, your coordinates are only utilized temporarily within your own browser to request data from the Google Places API. We do not store, track, or log your personal location.
A Local Guide's Field Manual to Verifying Data
Google relies on Local Guides like you to ensure the map remains a source of truth. However, simply guessing a business's hours or pulling a phone number from an unverified directory can lead to your edits being rejected by Google's algorithms. Here are the best practices for verifying missing information to ensure your edits are approved quickly.
1. The Storefront Window Check
The gold standard for operating hours is a printed sign on the business's front door or window. When using the Missing Info tool, make a list of nearby shops that lack hours and plan a quick walk past them. Avoid submitting temporary holiday hours or one-off closures as the regular operating hours.
2. Digging for the Official Website
When searching for a missing website, avoid submitting links to third-party delivery apps (like UberEats or DoorDash) or review aggregators. Google wants the official digital home of the business. If the business doesn't have a dedicated `.com` address, providing a link to their active, official Facebook or Instagram business page is usually the best alternative.
3. Cross-Referencing Phone Numbers
If a business hasn't listed a phone number, it might be because they only handle inquiries via email or social media. However, if you find a printed menu, a business card on the counter, or a branded vehicle out front, those are excellent primary sources for a verified contact number.
4. Always Provide Photographic Proof
If you want to guarantee your edit is approved immediately, provide evidence. When you submit a change to operating hours or a phone number via the Google Maps app, you are often prompted to add a photo. Snapping a quick picture of the storefront signage that clearly displays the information proves to both the automated bots and the human reviewers that your edit is completely accurate.
